The room where you are now is the Archive: the place where we preserve an important part of the heritage of ITS Foundation, which counts 14,758 portfolios, 1,089 fashion items, 163 accessories, 118 pieces of jewellery and over 700 photographic projects. The uniqueness of this archive is that it collects the first works of selected young talents, or better yet their theses, free from commercial dynamics and therefore totally devoted to innovation and limitless experimentation. Until 2021, this heritage was kept in an old attic of a building in Piazza Venezia 1 here in Trieste, under the name ITS Creative Archive. Since 2022, thanks to the Fondazione CRTrieste it has found its rightful place, which allows us to preserve it in the best possible way. Generali, with its project 'Generali ensuring the future of creativity', stands by us and supports us in the conservation and restoration of the items. In addition to the transfer of the pieces, between 2020 and 2021, a team of 6 people from our staff re-catalogued each piece, recording all conservation and restoration operations on a database. Each garment was analysed from different points of view, including measurements, volumes, materials, techniques, and colours used, as well as studying the best conservation conditions and carefully checking for any slightest damage requiring restoration. At the end of this operation, the garments were placed inside these compactable cabinets that you will find on your right to be properly preserved. The aisle you see open has been set up for you, to give you an indication of how the garments are stored inside the cabinets. In reality, for reasons of space, the storage of garments is much denser. The challenge we face is to use as little space as possible while maintaining the highest conservation possible. Another part of the heritage is kept in a storage room on the ground floor of this building. There we keep oversized items, which are too big for these cabinets, or those that need to be stored on a bust or mannequin. All the portfolios of the ITS finalists (almost 700) are also stored in the compactable archives in front of you, while the portfolios of the applicants are stored in the Library we visited earlier and on the ground floor. In 2021, during the work of the re-cataloguing of the garments, a team of 15 people processed all the portfolios. What was done? Each portfolio was placed in a new case (which is the one we saw opened in the video mapping in the Library), labelled with a barcode and content and material were checked. As far as the restoration part is concerned, consider that at present, the necessary restoration work has been carried out only on the garments currently on show (47 out of over 1000 of the complete collection). In addition, every month all pieces on display have to be cleaned and their state of preservation monitored. What we have told you so far is the state of the art, but what awaits us is work that will continue over time and that will see us working not only on the garments we already have but also on new acquisitions (through annual ITS Contest the collection will grow). In addition to this room, after the door on your left as you look at the compacts, there is a space closed to the public, entirely dedicated to the restoration work, the CONSERVATORY.

La stanza dove vi trovate ora è l’Archivio: il luogo dove conserviamo una parte importante del patrimonio della Fondazione ITS, che conta 14.758 portfolio, 1.089 item di moda, 163 accessori, 118 gioielli e oltre 700 progetti fotografici. L’unicità di questo archivio è quella di raccogliere le opere prime dei giovani talenti selezionati, ovvero le loro le tesi di laurea, scevre da da dinamiche commerciali e dunque votate totalmente all’innovazione e alla sperimentazione senza limiti. Fino al 2021 questo patrimonio era conservato nella vecchia mansarda di un palazzo in Piazza Venezia 1 qui a Trieste, sotto il nome di ITS Creative Archive. Dal 2022, grazie alla Fondazione CRTrieste ha trovato la sua giusta collocazione, che ci permette di preservarlo al meglio. Generali con il progetto “Generali ensuring the future of creativity” ci affianca e supporta per la parte relativa alla conservazione e al restauro dei capi. Oltre al trasferimento dei pezzi, tra il 2020 e il 2021, un team di 6 persone del nostro staff ha ri-catalogato ciascun pezzo, registrando su un database ogni operazione di conservazione e restauro: nello specifico ogni capo è stato analizzato da moltissimi punti di vista tra cui misure, volumi, materiali, tecniche di realizzazionedei colori utilizzati, oltre a studiare le migliori condizioni di conservazione e a un controllo attento di ogni minimo danneggiamento per il quale è necessario un restauro. Al termine di questa operazione, i capi sono stati collocati all’interno di questi armadi compattabili che trovate alla vostra destra per essere propriamente preservati. La corsia che vedete aperta è stata scenografata per voi, per darvi un’idea indicativa di come i capi sono archiviati all’interno delle armadiature. In realtà, per necessità di spazio, la sistemazione dei capi è molto più densa. La sfida che dovremo affrontare sempre di più è proprio quella di utilizzare minor spazio possibile mantenendo un’elevata qualità conservativa. Un'altra parte del patrimonio è invece conservata in un magazzino al piano 0 di questo palazzo. Qui teniamo i pezzi fuori misura, troppi grandi per questi armadi o che, addirittura, hanno necessità di essere conservati su busto o manichino. All’interno degli archivi compattabili davanti a voi sono conservati anche tutti i portfolio dei finalisti di ITS (quasi 700), mentre i portfolio degli iscritti sono conservati all’interno della Library che abbiamo visitato prima e al piano 0. Contestualmente al lavoro di ri-catalogazione dei capi, nel 2021, un team di 15 persone si è dedicato anche ai portfolio. Ciascun portfolio è stato ricollocato in un nuovo astuccio (che è quello che abbiamo visto aprirsi nel video mapping nella Library), etichettato con un codice a barre e analizzato da un punto di vista contenutistico e materico. Per quanto riguarda la parte del restauro, considerate che allo stato attuale sono stati effettuati gli interventi di restauro necessari solo sui capi attualmente in mostra ( 47 sugli oltre 1000 della collezione completa). Inoltre ogni mese tutti i pezzi i mostra vanno puliti e monitorati nel loro stato conservativo. Oltre a questa stanza c’è uno spazio non visitabile al pubblico interamente dedicato agli interventi di restauro, il CONSERVATORY.

Wir befinden uns nun im Archiv, wo wir einen wichtigen Teil des Erbes der ITS-Stiftung aufbewahren: ein Erbe das 14.758 Portfolios, 1.089 Kleidungsstücke, 163 Accessoires, 118 Schmuckstücke und über 700 Fotoprojekte umfasst.
Die Einzigartigkeit dieses Archivs besteht darin, dass es die ersten Arbeiten ausgewählter junger Talente sammelt, d.h. ihre Diplomarbeiten, die frei von kommerzieller Logik und daher ganz der Innovation und dem grenzenlosen Experimentieren gewidmet sind.
Bis 2021 wurde dieses Erbe unter dem Namen ITS Creative Archive im Dachgeschoss eines Gebäudes an der Piazza Venezia 1 hier in Triest aufbewahrt.
Seit 2022 hat es dank der Fondazione CRTrieste seinen Platz gefunden, wo wir es unter den bestmöglichen Bedingungen erhalten können. Das italienische Versicherungsunternehmen Generali begleitet und unterstützt uns mit dem Projekt «Generali ensuring the future of creativity» bei der Konservierung und Restaurierung der Kleidungsstücke.
Darüber hinaus hat ein Team von sechs Mitarbeitenden zwischen 2020 und 2021 jedes einzelne Stück neu katalogisiert und alle Konservierungs- und Restaurierungsarbeiten in einer Datenbank erfasst. Konkret wurde jedes Kleidungsstück unter zahlreichen Gesichtspunkten wie Größe, Maß, Materialien und Realisierung der Farben analysiert und sorgfältig auf die kleinsten restaurierungsbedürftigen Schäden untersucht. Schließlich wurden die besten Konservierungsbedingungen ermittelt.
Nach Abschluss der Arbeiten wurden die Kleidungsstücke zur fachgerechten Aufbewahrung in die Rollregale auf der rechten Seite gelegt.
Der Gang, den ihr offen seht, wurde für euch so belassen, damit ihr sehen könnt, wie die Kleidungsstücke in den Schränken aufbewahrt werden. In der Realität sind die Kleidungsstücke aus Platzgründen viel enger angeordnet.Die Herausforderung, die wir zunehmend angehen werden müssen, besteht darin, so wenig Raum wie möglich zu benutzen und gleichzeitig eine hohe Erhaltungsqualität zu gewährleisten.
Ein weiterer Teil des Erbes wird in einem Lagerraum im Erdgeschoss dieses Gebäudes aufbewahrt. Hier befinden sich die übergroßen Stücke, die in diese Schränke nicht passen oder die sogar auf einer Büste oder Puppe aufbewahrt werden müssen.
In den Rollregalen vor euch befinden sich auch die fast 700 Portfolios der Finalistinnen und Finalisten des ITS, während die Portfolios der Teilnehmenden in der Library und im Erdgeschoss aufbewahrt werden.
Parallel zur Neukatalogisierung der Kleidungsstücke hat sich 2021 ein Team von 15 Personen auch um die Portfolios gekümmert.
Was wurde getan? Jedes Portfolio wurde in eine neue Box gelegt, die gleiche, die wir beim Video-Mapping in der Bibliothek gesehen haben. Dann wurde es mit einem Strichcode versehen und hinsichtlich Inhalts und Materialen analysiert.
Was die Restaurierung betrifft, so wurden bisher nur die notwendigen Arbeiten an den derzeit ausgestellten Kleidungsstücken durchgeführt, d.h. an 47 der insgesamt über 1000 Stücke der Sammlung.
Außerdem müssen alle Exponate monatlich gereinigt und auf ihren Erhaltungszustand überprüft werden.
Bei diesem Besuch haben wir unsere bisherige Arbeit vorgestellt. Aber es gibt immer noch viel mehr zu tun: Wir werden nicht nur an den Kleidungsstücken weiterarbeiten, die wir schon haben, sondern auch an den neuen, die wir jedes Jahr im Rahmen des Wettbewerbs sammeln.
Neben diesem Raum hinter der Tür rechts von den Rollregalen befindet sich ein nicht öffentlich zugänglicher Raum, der ganz der Restaurierung gewidmet ist: das CONSERVATORY.
